There are some odd toys available this Christmas

There are definitely some unusual items that are coming out this Christmas. The Toy Retailers Association has created a list of several ‘dream toys’ that are going to be popular this Christmas time. This year most of the products on the list seem to have some involvement with technology. Some of the most unusual items named include a doll that remains moisturised by living in a hydration tank and a dog that poos. There are some more traditional items on the list such as Elmo and Fireman Sam.

Other popular items on the list include tablet computers designed for children. While these are not manufactured by Apple they are clearly designed to imitate the popular iPad device that is a toy popular with most parents. The LeapPad Explorer is an example of a device that uses a touchscreen interface, it is available for £80.

Head of the dream toys selection group is Gary Grant and he has commented about the toys, “This Christmas more technological toys than ever before are becoming available to children, and they are not just targeted towards technologically minded children, technology is improving the whole play experience.”

There is also a digital camera targeted at children which is produced by VTech. This actually played a part on the list last year, but it has undergone some improvements and has made the list again.

This year marked the first time that the Toy Retailers Association has consulted children on which are their favourite toys. One of the most popular options was a device that children can play the popular iPhone game Angry Birds on without having to have an iPhone or iPad. This retells for around £20, which is a somewhat higher pricetag than the original 99p offering.

Grant continued, “As well as technology we have seen a great many old toys make a comeback, many of these have been given a twist in 2011. For example Scalextric’s is popular this year and a special set has been created which has an Olympic Games theme. There is also a boardgame that has been based around Angry Birds. The combination of old and new really shows how the toy industry is being adaptable and forward thinking to new technologies entering the market.”

Doggy Doo is a game where players compete to scoop plasticine dog poo from a toy. Although it did not rank very highly on the list compiled by the Toy Retailers Association it is proving to be somewhat of a hot topic in the media and was recently featured on the Jonathan Ross show.

Children seem to find the toy very entertaining and many are asking for it for Christmas. While parents might be less than impressed with the toy children find the noise as it makes hilarious.

It is expected that this year the amount of money parents are spending on their children will fall as generally people have less disposable income. Estimates say that parents will be spending around £150 rather than £200 which they spent last year.

Christmas toys for little girls

Now that summer has waved goodbye for another year the countdown to Christmas begins in earnest, and at the front of everyone’s minds who has kids is which toys to get this year. If you have a four year old girl to buy for, it can be tricky to find a toy that fits all the criteria for what is effectively an in-between age.

A good indicator of what are the best toys around for a 4 year old girl is to check out the sales figures on the websites of the top online retailers and stores. If a toy is marked as a top seller it indicates that it is going to be found in a lot of stockings this Christmas. Many of these sites also include reviews of toys, and these are also worth checking out, particularly if the toy has a high price tag.

An important point when looking for toys for little girls, who are notoriously fussy, is choosing a toy that they will actually like. You can get the latest must have toy and pay a fortune for it just for her to open it, screw up her face, and discard it with the wrapping paper. If the child is a big fan of the Waybaloos for example, its pointless buying her a Zingzilla just because it a top seller.

There are clear leaders in the list of top Christmas toys for 4 year old girls in 2011, and if you haven’t yet decided on a toy for the little girl in your life, a look at the top five may make this easier for you.

My Pillow Pets are exactly what the name suggests, they are a pillow that is also a pet. Although these have been around for quite a while now they are still extremely popular due to new ones being released all the time. Whatever the little girl is into, there will be a pillow pet to suit the criteria.

The Fisher Price iXL Learning System in pink may be on the pricey side but little girls who love technology will get great use out if this. What they will get from this toy will last at least a few years, so overall it offers good value for money.

There aren’t many girls in the 3-6 age bracket who aren’t a fan of Sing-a-Ma-Jigs. These incredibly cute toys came out last year but are still hugely popular. Get two of them side by side singing together and they are simply enchanting.

For little girls with artistic leanings, a Melissa and Doug standing Easel would make an ideal gift. Its designed especially for smaller children and is perfect for a 4 year old budding artist. Last on the list are Zoobles toys, you may not have heard of them yet but you soon will. Little girls adore these strange creations, and they are going to be massive this Christmas.

Kids already have one eye on Christmas presents

Despite it being August, if you have young children in the house, they will already be looking ahead to Christmas, and all that comes with it. One of the big parts of Christmas is the many traditions that we all hold dear, whether they are new ones we have started ourselves or those that have been passed down through the generations. A great tradition to bring into your home this Christmas is the Elf on The Shelf.

Not only will your kids love the little fella sitting on the shelf, but you will more than likely find that they will be better behaved than usual in the run up to the big day as they will think that the Elf is reporting back to Santa! The story book that accompanies the Elf is a great bedtime story and will get everyone in the festive spirit.

As the theory is that Santa needs to know if children have been good or not, he sends the Elf to keep an eye on things.  To add credence to this, move the Elf around the house, as kids aren’t dumb, and will quickly work out that they can be naughty in rooms where the Elf can’t see them, and the story also goes that if the kids come down every morning and find him sitting in the same place he will forfeit his powers.

The children can also go online and register the Elf, and can give him a unique name too. The set consists of the Elf, the hard backed story book and also a keepsake box for the kids to keep special Christmas mementoes in. There is also an action book you can purchase separately as well as additional dolls such as girl and boy Elves, and these extras make sure that your kids get completely absorbed in the tale.

Not too early to think about Christmas toys

Christmas is when people can celebrate and enjoy each other’s company. The celebration usually includes gift exchanges in addition to the excellent holiday experience that normally is full of excitement and fun filled.

Keeping this in mind, there usually are toys that are designed for the specific holiday and great occasion. These kinds of gifts are usually unavailable as Christmas gets near making it more difficult to get the toys they are most interested in unless purchased in advance.

Many people around Christmas time will wait until it is close to the holiday to shop then when they go out to shop they find out that there is very little they can buy especially the hot Christmas toys since they were fully sold out. This means you must start looking for the toys as early as you can.

Technological development has made things easier for people and therefore you can search easily for things online at home or even in the office. You can also purchase the items online at that time and not worry about them being sold out. No longer do you have to go store to store to get your gifts items, just website to website.

There are a number of reputable stores that are available online to get your gifts. There are also more and more shops that are opening for this wonderful holiday and leading to a high number of choices.

This also has created problems with people taking advantage of those people that are searching desperately for the hot Christmas gift. These scammers are out to rip people off. Therefore you need to shop only at the stores that are most reputable and the ones known to you.

In order to do this you need to perform a great deal of research of the different stores that are selling Christmas gifts. You will not always be able to get gifts from stores you are familiar with therefore you need to research the stores you do not know to see if they are legitimate.

You need to make sure you have a spending budget set up. Christmas gifts can cost a very large sum of money and your need to stay within your budget since not everyone can afford to spend anything they want. With a budget you will also be able to determine which toys are within your budget and which toys you cannot afford to purchase. If you do everything correctly then you will enjoy your Christmas holiday even more.
