Classic toys remain firm favourites
Toys continue to change and evolve as toy manufacturers come up with more sophisticated and modern ways to keep children wanting their products. However, despite developments in many electronic toys, including video games, there are a handful of ‘classic’ toy that have remained the same throughout the last few decades equally able to inspire imagination and keep children entertained for hours at the same time.
First up on the list is the rubic cube which came out in the 70s and is still just a 3D puzzle cube that is waiting to be solved. The cube has six sides and nine different stickers placed on each side. As anyone that has struggled with the cube for hours can tell you, the goal is to get every face one color, but it is a lot easier to say this than do it.
Up next is the hula hoop which has been around since the fifties and is simply a hoop that you swing around your hips. Although some hula hoops now have ribbons and sparkles on them, the hoop is essentially the same thing with the same goal: keep it in the air for as long as possible.
Next on the list is a yo-yo which has been around since 500 BC believe it or not. The yo-yo is simply a ball that has string wrapped around it and when pulled it drops down and then returns back to the palm of your hand. Although there are more tricks that professionals perform now, the shape of the yo-yo has gone unchanged.
Finally, there is the time honoured tradition of the teddy bear that is in reality a child’s best friend and security toy as they grow older. Perfect for snuggling as well as tea parties, you will be hard pressed to find a child that does not love their teddy bear.
Wooden playhouses keep kids entertained for hours
If you are looking for a toy that is going to keep children entertained for a very long time then purchasing a wooden playhouse can be a fantastic choice. Toys are often used to entertain children when adults want to have some time alone, or when there is a family gathering and the adults are talking. Having a wooden playhouse is a great idea as it will encourage the children to play outside, away from the adults.
This sort of outdoor toy is great as it will keep children entertained for days at a time and it will also foster an active imagination. Outdoor toys are generally quite expensive compared to indoor toys, because they have to be more durable. A basic wooden playhouse will cost anywhere between £200 and £1000. This all depends on the quality of the built, and the sort of features that the playhouse has.
In many cases with more expensive playhouses, they are more complicated and often might be located on top of a climbing frame. If you do choose a playhouse with a climbing frame, then your child will also benefit from getting extra exercise.
The more features that are added to a playhouse, the longer the child will be entertained by it. For example if there is a sandpit then the combination of this with the playhouse will provide even greater entertainment value.
It is often the case with more expensive playhouses that they come with some great gadgets which add to the adventure and mystery of the construction. An example of this might be a telescope attached to the outside of the playhouse which can be great for children who want to pretend to be pirates. All in all, a playhouse is a great toy that will keep children entertained for a very long time.
New Lego toys are based on the ‘Clone Wars’ films
A new toy has been created by Lego which is based on the Clone Wars films, part of the Star Wars franchise. The toy is based on the machines used on the battlefield by the Galactic Empire in order to transport troops or to assault the enemy. They are famous for using mechanical legs instead of wheels and this is something that your child will love about this latest toy.
The new set of toys by Lego will allow children to re-enact the war scenes seen in the television series or the Star Wars films. There are toy missiles as part of the kit which allow children to face-off against each other.
The toys are around three inches tall and because they are from Lego any parents will know what they are buying their children. There are many colourful bricks which can be connected together and they are made from plastic which is very easy to clean.
Lego is one of the most famous toy brands in the world and was established nearly 70 years ago. Parents and grandparents of children today would have also played with the toys as a child and know how much fun they can be. Theme kits have long been a part of Lego and they are updated with what is popular with children at the time and right now this is Clone Wars.
It is widely expected by toy experts that it is going to be one of the bestselling toys this season and parents who want to ensure their children get the toy should buy them early as they are likely to sell out. The toy is recommended for children who are six years and older because there are many small pieces which younger children might decide to swallow.
Electronic toys do not aid a childs development
It was not such a long time ago that children did not have electronic gadgets to play with and most toys were made out of basic materials utilising simple mechanisms. Today’s children have much less of an interest in these toys and are more focused on electronic gadgets. Older toys were very useful as they had a way of teaching children how to use their hands and learn new things, which is why they still have a place with children today.
The best sort of toy that parents can hope to buy for their child is one that the child finds entertaining but is also educational. It is not very often that a toy comes along that is capable of doing all of these things at once, and this is even more so nowadays where most toys are electronic and have a too heavy focus on only play.
An old toy which was very useful for teaching children how to solve problems and build things with their hands, were toy blocks. These are something that children can stack and built into creative objects and it allows them to use their imagination. These toys have become more complicated over time and now complicated construction kits exist which allow children to make all sorts of objects.
Not only do these toys allow a child to learn how to make things, but it can also help them develop critical thinking abilities. These toys are so well known for the beneficial development of young children, that they are even used in many schools.
Educational toys are something that are not just beneficial for very young children, but can play a useful part all the way up until the beginning of the teenage years. Younger children benefit from learning about creativity and improving their hand eye coordination. Older children are going to benefit from the toys because they will help them develop logical thinking abilities and diversify their knowledge about different subjects. Even at older ages, the best toys are those that educate children, while entertaining them.
One of the first types of toys that children ride on is a tricycle. These come in many different forms and some have advantages over others. If you are looking at buying a tricycle, you should make sure that the wheel can only be turned in a limited arc. This will mean that the child cannot turn the tricycle so far as for them to fall off. This is unlikely to cause them any harm, but falling off doesn’t exactly add to the enjoyment experienced by the child.
As children get a bit older they may graduate onto vehicles that they can peddle themselves. Not only do these provide a great way for children to exercise their imaginations, but they also ensure that they get enough physical exercise. This sort of vehicle is generally best suited to children who are over four years old, and they are generally made for children up to 9. As well as imagination and exercise, these vehicles also allow children to improve their coordination as they have to use their arms and legs at the same time.
Electronic toys are something that do not require children to think, they do not foster imagination and skill growth and are not as beneficial to a child’s development as traditional toys. Playing with toys in a physical manner has many benefits for your child and they go beyond the educational. You will find children who play with real-world objects to be more animated and lively. The benefits of traditional toys should not be underestimated in today’s society, where we have an over-reliance on electronic items.
